Mr Pandelis Athanasias

Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist

Mr Athanasias was appointed as Lead Consultant for Acute Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy at St Helier Hospital in July 2012. His special interest is in minimal access surgery and gynaecological ultrasound and in education and training.

He currently covers general gynaecology, rapid access, colposcopy and acute gynaecology sessions.

Mr Athanasias also performs laparoscopic tubal and ovarian surgery (ovarian cystectomy, salpingo-oophorectomy, salpingectomy/salpingostomy for ectopic gestations), adhesiolysis, up to revised AFS stage 3 endometriosis, laparoscopic total and subtotal hysterectomies and myomectomies.

He is the lead for the Ambulatory Gynaecology Unit at St Helier Hospital offering a range of procedures including MVA (ERPC under local anaesthetic), Outpatient Diagnostic and Operative Hysteroscopy, Endometrial Ablation under local anaesthetic and treatment of Bartholin’s abscess with the word catheter.

Mr Athanasias is the lead for the 2WW clinics managing all the patients referred with gynaecological pathologies suspicious for cancer. He is a member of the Multidisciplinary oncology and colposcopy group for Epsom & St Helier and is also the lead for the Gynaecology Risk Management forum. He has produced several new guidelines for Gynaecology and Early Pregnancy.

Mr. Fadi Alfhaily

Mr. Alfhaily is a Consultant in Obstetrics and Gynaecology with special interest in medical education, ambulatory gynaecology, urogynaecology and maternal medicine, Colchester Hospital University NHS Foundation Trust since March 2010 and is the clinical lead of outpatient ambulatory gynaecology and maternal medicine. Within his role he has managed to introduce more outpatient’s procedure which led to more cost-effective care and safer management to patients. He has developed this service to meet the current standard of ambulatory gynaecology.

Mr. Alfhaily is heavily involved in education and he was College Tutor from July 2012 till February 2016; during those years he managed to improve the education and training environment in Colchester hospital remarkably; which was acknowledged in the GMC surveys: 2014 and 2015. He also managed to improve and maintain the ranking of Colchester hospital to 11 out of 160 units in UK. Since 2014, he has been involved in Enhanced Revision Programme through the RCOG.

Mr. Nibs Biswas

Consultant Gynaecologist & Obstetrician

Mr Biswas has been working as a consultant for over 10 years. He is an undergraduate tutor and Honorary clinical lecturer in Women’s health at Keele Medical school.

He has led numerous service development programmes including initiating endometrial ablation under local anaesthesia. He leads the Hysteroscopy training programme for the local deanery trainees at the Princess Royal Hospital and participates in the Minimal Access Training within the region.
